This week in the King Edward VI Handsworth Wood Girls’ Academy Weekly Newsletter:

Term Time Holidays

Please be advised that term-time holidays are very unlikely to be approved. If families ignore this the absence will be unauthorised and you will be at risk of receiving a £60 Fixed Penalty Notice per parent on your return.

In the last month, 36 parents have received Penalty Notices for taking students on unauthorised leave in term time.

In addition, we have had three parents receive court fines after receiving Penalty Notices and making an appeal – after which either pleaded guilty or it was proved in their absence. The costs that each of these parents have to pay varies between £126 and £433, but totals £1133.

Please note that, Birmingham City Council strongly discourages pupil leave of absence during term time. The expectation is that such leave would only be authorized in the most exceptional circumstance.

Please ensure that leave is taken in the school holidays only.

Dates for your Calendar:

What a Fantastic Week at HWGA!

Today, we’ve also come together as a school community to support Macmillan Charity with a bake sale. The enthusiasm from staff and students has been amazing, and it’s a great feeling to contribute to such an important cause.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to all of our families for your continued support in ensuring your daughters arrive on time each day. Punctuality plays such an important role in setting a positive tone for the day, and we truly appreciate your efforts.

This week also marks our staff and students’ first full week in our fantastic new building! There’s a real sense of excitement for these new beginnings, and we hope to invite families in soon to share in our celebration of this new chapter for HWGA.

Lastly, with the rainy weather setting in, we kindly remind families to provide their daughters with suitable coats or umbrellas to ensure they stay dry and comfortable. If anyone requires support with this, please don’t hesitate to reach out, and we’ll be happy to help.

Thank you again for your ongoing support!

With warm regards and best wishes,

Miss K Takhar Headteacher

Open Evening

We’ve had a truly wonderful week, starting with our Open Evening, where we were delighted to welcome so many prospective families and showcase all that HWGA has to offer. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the evening such a success!
