Welcome to our Weekly Newsletter for the week ending 15 November 2024.
This week at King Edward VI Handsworth Wood Girls’ Academy:
Every minute counts
Frequent absence can add up to a considerable amount of lost learning and can seriously disadvantage your child in adult life.
- 5 minutes late every day means around 3 ½ days of education are missed
- a score of 90% in a test would be a good result but 90% attendance means that a child will have missed around 100 lessons over a school year.
The majority of our students are on time to school every day. Thank you for your ongoing support in ensuring that your daughter attends school on time every day. Lesson 1 begins promptly at 8:45am, which means that your daughter needs to be in her seat waiting for the register to be taken by 08:40am.
Students who are late, without a valid reason, will sit in a 30 minute after school detention on the same day.
Dates for the Calendar:
- 26th November 2024 – Year 13 – Economics Workshop Trip (SELECTED STUDENTS)
- 28th November 2024 – PSHE RSE Parental Consultation Meeting in School Library 9.00-10.00 am

Warm Hands Warm Hearts Festive Fundraiser
There will be various fundraising activities taking place across our school over the next few weeks.
Money that is raised will be donated to the Celebration Toy Fund for Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where toys are purchased for individual wards based on ages of children who will in hospital at that time.
Finally, our wonderful 6th form will be doing a donation drive for a local homeless charity. Finally the charity WE:ARE, a Birmingham based organisation, provide a safe and supportive environment for women who have been subjected to domestic abuse, will receive the journals, toiletries & chocolate gifts.
There are approx. 70 women we are hoping to donate to, these items will most likely be the only gifts they will receive over the Christmas season.
Thank you in advance for helping us to help those less fortunate in our community.
